today i went to the colosseum with my friends julie, rachel and rachel. it was absolutely amazing. i think it is my favorite place so far. we took the metro (the cipro metro stop is at the bottom of the hill from the residence off of the piazza del eroi), which is the red line, and transfered at the termini station to the blue line. there are only two metro lines in rome and they intersect at stazione termini. then we took the blue to the colosseo stop. as we stepped out of the station, this massive structure came into view. it was almost surreal and it was huge. i am so used to seeing it in pictures that seeing it in person was so weird. i took tons of pictures, but i will upload them later. soooo cool of a day. it really made me feel like i am actually in rome. after that my friends and i took the metro to the stop we take to get to school (flaminio). we ended up making a wrong turn, but eventually ended up at temple where rachel #1 changed her class schedule. the cool thing about rome is that the historical landmarks serve as points of direction. we knew we were going the right way because we were heading away from the piazza del popolo for example. okay so then we went to the supermarket and got some pasta for dinner and headed back to rachel#1's apartment at the residence. we made mickey mouse and star shaped ravioli. we are all just hanging out now. it is raining outside, so we aren't exploring tonight. i need to get to the vatican at some point...i want to see st. peter's at night. maybe tomorrow.
speaking of tomorrow...we have to apply for our permit to stay, which is required in italy. we need to go to campus early and stay forever while everyone applies.
i booked a hostel in venice for carnivale with 4 other people tonight. i am so excited. however, if anyone can find a way for us to get there....the train is too expensive and i havent been able to find buses. let me know!
okayyyy thats is all for now. more adventures tomorrow! yay!!

Glad to see that you're already figuring out the transit system... must be that New York experience. It will make life easier and it will allow me to rest easier knowing that you are not walking around everywhere with or without others. I hope you get a chance to really explore some of the neighborhoods around the city and that you can find some of the neat shops and markets... maybe after you get a little more comfortable with the language. Is Carnivale in Venice in February? Let me know what your options are. Are you and your friends going to rent costumes and will you arrange to attend a few of the bigger (public) parties? Are you sick of all the questions? Is this better discussed in email?
